BROMSGROVE martial artist Wendy Hopwood has become only the second lady to achieve a Second Dan Black Belt in British Free Fighting.
Hopwood, who lives in Sidemoor, has been training with the British Free Fighting Academy for six years at South Bromsgrove High School. She also teaches a ladies' class at the Ryland Centre.
Wendy said: "I'm really proud to be one of the first few people to gain this award.
"Passing my Black Belt in British Free Fighting was a massive achievement but to gain a Second Dan is just wonderful.
"I am now looking forward to passing my knowledge and skills on to other people."
British Free Fighting is a practical modern combat system designed for today's increasingly violent society.
It includes restraining, grappling and powerful striking techniques, as well as defence against multiple attackers and assailants with weapons.
The academy meets on Tuesday evenings at South Bromsgrove High School from 7pm-9pm (children's class between 6pm and 7pm), and Monday evenings for ladies, at the Ryland Centre, between 7-8pm.
