Fairfield Villa (1) 5
B'wood Town (0) 1
Midland Combination Division One
FAIRFIELD returned to league action with a convincing win over a poor Burntwood side.
The game started with the home side taking early control of the midfield and kept the visitors on the defensive.
The pressure finally paid off in the 40th minute when captain Wayne Davies scored from close range.
Three minutes into the second half Villa increased their lead when Paul Matthews headed past Dave Tombs in the visitors' goal.
Burntwood kept trying but their approach play broke down near Villa's penalty area.
In the 70th minute Ian Brown headed Davies' cross past the keeper at the far post.
Five minutes later a neat one-two between Bromsgrove Rovers striker Liam O'Neill -- making his debut for Villa -- and Davies, ended with Davies firing the ball home from ten yards out.
In the 80th minute the visitors pulled a goal back when Carl Leech scored a direct free kick on the edge of the area past debutant keeper Paul Sidwell.
The final goal came in the 85th minute when Davies completed his hat-trick with a well struck shot from 20-yards to give Villa a good win.
