Redditch Town Centre is on the verge of some of the most radical changes it has ever seen - regeneration is the buzz word and it's fast becoming a reality.
We have seen St Stephen's Church spire, the focal point of the town centre, undergoing major restoration work, old buildings being demolished and the promised new developments taking place much quicker than many people expected - and this is only the beginning.
The refurbishment of Evesham Walk is almost complete and has totally transformed this major shopping mall with a sparkling new glazed roof, new ceilings and floor finishes, giving the whole area a sense of space and light.
TK Maxx, the nationwide chain of ''off price'' stores, opened for business a couple of weeks ago and early reports confirm trade has been brisk.
With more major stores opening in the next few weeks, including a huge JJB Sports Superstore and the trendy US company Spencer Gifts, Evesham Walk is set to be THE place to shop this autumn.
Another exciting change will be the opening of the multi-million pound extension to the Kingfisher Centre in six months, creating an impressive and welcoming gateway from the transport interchange.
At the heart of the new development will be an American-style food hall, which has already attracted interest from retailers offering the wide variety of goods you would expect to find in a quality food hall, together with a Wilkinsons Variety Store, TJ Hughes and a restaurant.
Topnotch, a luxurious health and fitness facility, complete with swimming pool, will occupy the whole of the top floor of the new development.
What's more, Topnotch - which prides itself on an innovative and fun approach to fitness - is set to introduce a superb nightclub-style Powerzone Gym, a boxing-based knockout zone, an artificial rock-climbing face and much more.
This new leisure complex alone is expected to attract visitors from both Redditch and the surrounding area.
Combine this with Debenhams' planned opening next year and it's clear Redditch is destined to regain its status as a regional shopping and leisure centre.
