November 9, 1901.
William M Newberry, late landlord of the Woodman Inn, Astwood Bank, who attempted to murder his wife on Thursday in last week, afterwards cutting his own throat in a shocking manner, died in the Smallwood Hospital, Redditch, on Thursday evening.
Newberry has had most assiduous attention from the medical staff and nurses but little hope was ever entertained of his recovery.
At times since his admission to the hospital he has been very violent and two constables have constantly been in attendance upon him.
The deceased man, we are informed, was making as satisfactory progress as could be expected until about the middle of the week when pneumonia set in and owing to his weak condition, he was unable to resist the disease to which he succumbed on Thursday, as already stated.
