IT was with sadness that I read the letter from Frank Jury (Shuttle/Times and News, November 1) complaining that he was caught parking in a disabled bay without displaying the appropriate card.
I too had the misfortune to do the same thing, on the Crossley retail park, but it was announced within the store that a vehicle was parked in a disabled bay and would the driver please remove it or place the card on the dashboard immediately. I then realised it was mine.
When I went out, the "Excel car park" operative was, to say the least, extremely polite but firm. He told me that it is a requirement of all parking on Crossley retail park that the disabled "must display their orange/blue badges while parking".
I know from personal experience that we can forget to place a piece of card on the dash, but would Mr Jury make the same fuss if a traffic warden or police officer had booked him?
Far too often disabled bays are used by the able-bodied but when we moan about it, nothing is done.
So I say to the disabled or carer, you can only have it one way. If you park in a specified bay, display or pay.
As a disabled driver I am delighted that someone is looking after my interests in keeping the able-bodied out of these bays.
I am not psychic and obviously the car park operative is not. It is your responsibility to display your granted privilege of parking in that bay. He is only doing his job and doing a good job at that.
Thank-you Mr Excel operative.
