A FILM about a gun may not sound the most riveting piece of entertainment.

But add Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, a gay hitman and a series of unfortunate but hilarious mishaps and you have a movie that is quirky, black, yet very entertaining in its own unpretentiousness.

Sam and Jerry have issues. Jerry (Pitt) is in the debt of a big-time gangster after accidentally causing him to be sent to jail.

Sam (Roberts) is his highly strung girlfriend who is into three things - Jerry, relationship therapy groups and herself.

When Jerry is "asked" to do one last job, off he trundles to Mexico to find and bring back The Mexican - a beautiful hand-made pistol that is priceless.

Sam, meanwhile, has set off on her own odyssey to become a croupier in Las Vegas, having left Jerry well and truly behind.

Until she gets caught up in the farce that is fast becoming Jerry's trip to Mexico.

This is a gentle, sweet romantic comedy that is not actually a gentle, sweet romantic comedy.

The humour is based around the situations but the real selling point are the characters.

Pitt, Roberts and James Gandolfini (as the gay hitman) turn in fantastic performances and are believable, funny and above all, likeable.

Not laugh-a-minute, but you will certainly have a smile on your face for most of the film.
