A MULTIPLE sclerosis sufferer who lives at a Barnt Green nursing home spoke of her upset this week after being told she has just four weeks to find alternative care because the home is closing.
Doreen Howells, aged 65, is among the 22 residents and 37 staff at Barnt Green Private Nursing Home who have been told they have to move out by November 30.
The Brook House Road home went into receivership in January but there were hopes it would be sold to a new owner who would keep it as a nursing home.
However, it is now likely to be converted into luxury apartments.
Mrs Howells, who has suffered with MS for 28 years, needs 24-hour care and said she is having great difficulty finding another suitable home.
"I have looked around about six homes now and some of them I haven't even been able to get into because I am in a wheelchair and they didn't have a ramp.
"I really like it here and I don't want to have to move. I've made friends that I probably won't see again because they are all moving to different places.
"The staff are lovely as well. It's such a shame for everyone at the home."
A spokeswoman for the home said: "On behalf of the staff we are all really sad the home is closing down.
"We are making every effort to relocate our residents in the appropriate environment with the assistance of social services and their families."
Dilap Shar, who used to own the home before it went into receivership, was unavailable for comment as the Advertiser/Messenger went to press.
