MALVERN Rugby Club put in a splendid performance during their victory over National Division Three South outfit Old Patesians on Saturday and are hoping this will give them the lift to secure their second Midlands One victory away at basement club Camp Hill tomorrow (Saturday).
David Robins, director of Rugby, was pleased with the performance, and said: "Having rested some regulars to try out players returning from injury and giving some promising youngsters a run out at first team level, I was pleased with the way the team gelled so quickly.
"It was good to see Vince Hill back after a month's lay-off, having lost none of his enthusiasm. Dave Merlin was immensely influential and we look forward to him being available for league duty in two weeks. Sean Lancett, so unfortunate with early season injury, played a superb game, especially as he was against their regular National League XV prop. Matt Williams also caught the eye in the pack, whilst Ian White made an assured debut.
"The backs were able to go through their paces today and Richard Fleming, reverting to full back in Andy Longley's absence, kicked magnificently. We now face Camp Hill away in a crucial league game.
"After being on the losing side in the league following some close games, we must start winning to pull away from the bottom of the table and the players know they must put in a big performance."
Camp Hill play at Hasluck's Green Road in Shirley, South Birmingham (from J4, M42, take A34 towards Birmingham, after about 2.5 miles, turn left (signposted Shirley Station). Kick-off is 2.30pm.
