Nine members of Powick Parish Ramblers walked the Town Trail of Ledbury on a beautifully sunny autumnal day last Thursday. Starting at the park behind the fire station, the group set off to join the cycle track on a tree lined embankment (once a branch of the railway). The route led under the existing rail bridge to skirt the by pass with views of the rail viaduct, on through the grassy picnic area adjacent to the River Leadon, to reach the Full Pitcher pub. The path then wound its way through the new estate, back towards Southend and the Deer Park, past the John Masefield High School and the Oak Inn. At the town crossroads, with its over hanging black and white timber framed houses, the path led towards the police station, down Cabbage Lane to the parish church and on to the picturesque Church Lane with its cobbles and the old Grammar School (now a museum). Lunch and welcome refreshment were taken at the Prince of Wales Inn. The second part of the walk continued through the walled garden by the Old Magistrates House at the top of Church Lane, along the ridge to Homend and the Ledbury Railway Station to once again meet up with the cycle track (where the children from the local primary school joined the path on their way to the swimming baths). Back at the car park thanks were expressed to Rita de Boer and Jo Walker for the planning and leading of the three and a half mile walk.
