West Malvern's newest resident could well be set for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. Lizzy Helder was born in Birmingham on Tuesday October 30. Just four days later (strapped firmly to her father's chest!) she turned up at the village bonfire and fireworks last Saturday, November 3, with her parents Sally and Edwin and big brother Daniel (2). Is Lizzy the youngest person ever to take part in Guy Fawkes Night celebrations? Two years ago Daniel was in St James's Church for the Carols in Candlelight Service at little more than a week old! The fireworks laid on by the usual team of willing helpers made a fine display on the mild dry evening. Less willing, however, was the bonfire which seem a little reluctant to blaze - presumably because much of the material was still wet after our sodden October, which dropped some 6ins of rain on West Malvern.
Saturday, November 17 will see the first of the Cricket Club's winter season of quizzes at the Village Hall, with all the usual features.
Proceedings will be conducted in his usual inimitable way by Andy Dakin, while rumour has it that prizes for the customary raffle may even include some West Malvern Notelets! For team table bookings ring Tony Poyner on 567238.
Catalogues for the 100-plus lots to be sold at the Club's auction of promises and cricket memorabilia at Lyttelton Well on November 30 are now available from the Brewers' Arms, the Bees Knees village shop, First Paige in Great Malvern and Robin Lloyd Antiques, Ross-on-Wye, price £1 each.
Tickets are also selling briskly for the Cricket Club's buffet dance to be held at the Foley Arms on Friday, December 7, when popular former village residents Vo and Rachel Fletcher will be providing music for dancing from the 60s and 70s. A generous buffet will be included in the £14 ticket price. Details and bookings: Dave Cantrell on 572764.
