THE poetry and prose of John Betjemen is highlighted in an event at Malvern Priory tomorrow (Saturday).
The aim is to raise money for the Priory's organ appeal, aiming to raise £400,000.
Entitled English Churches - A Journey In Words and Music, the show is performed by narrator Paul Vaughan and organist David Harrison, with help from Raymond Fowler.
They have already had two sell-out performances at the Three Choirs Festival and in another church fundraiser at St James's, West Malvern, in aid of the roof appeal.
The show consists of poems and prose by and about Betjemen, with musical interludes from composers of the time, including Elgar and Parry.
"John Betjemen was one of the best-loved poet laureates," said Mr Vaughan. "But at the time his appointment was unpopular with intellectuals, because his poetry had the nerve to rhyme, and to make sense.
Tickets cost £6, and are available from the parish office, the Lyttelton Well, or 01684 573249 or 568483.
