A BOUT of pneumonia has deprived jazz fans of the chance to hear the man hailed as "Britain's foremost New Orleans-style clarinettist".
Sammy Rimington, now resident in Sweden, was booked to play at Hanley Castle High School next Friday (November 16) with the Sammy Rimington/John Petters New Orleans All Stars, part of a programme organised by the Friends of the Upton Jazz Festival.
His place will now be taken by Dave Bailey, a Berkshire-born reeds man who learnt his trade with the Yarra Yarra jazz band in Australia.
The concert will start at 8pm, with tickets, priced £10 (members £8), available from Pepperpot Print, High Street, Upton, or from Paul Lawrence on 01684 593794.
