MALVERN U14s owed their latest victory, a 29-24 thriller against Woodrush, to another brilliant first half display of attacking rugby.

Using the Spring Lane slope to full advantage, Adam Blackmore's fast-improving side ran in four tries before the interval to lead 24-0.

The pack quickly established complete domination, shoving the visitors backwards in a series of strength-sapping scrums. From one of these Adam Green picked up and drove over for the first score, which Ross Tolley converted. He did the same for the second try, a trademark piece of wing magic by Chris Prosser. Tolley then crossed over himself, after a magnificent break by Matt Tigh. The final action of the half was a fine score by flanker Andy Powell after yet another irresistible surge by the forwards.

Woodrush stormed back into contention with the slope in their favour and managed four tries, the last of them converted by the best kick of the day.

Matt Tigh then began an attack with another penetrating run, then the forwards took over with a series of pick-up-and-drives which culminated in Andy Powell going over for his second try.

- Malvern's under 8's travelled to south Birmingham to take part in the Woodrush Rugby Club's triangular tournament.

With a very young side, the Malvern U8's team took the field against Wolverhampton, who included several older boys.

However, Malvern played with team spirit and commitment from the beginning and ran in three excellent tries. The actual scorers were Stefan Barker (man of the match), Rhys Williams and captain for the day, Alex McDonald.

Score: Malvern 3, Wolverhampton 1.

A little later Malvern took on some older lads from Woodrush. Despite some excellent work from the Malvern lads, the home side scored two breakaway tries before James Merley (man of the match), ran over to put the visitors in contention.

However, Woodrush rallied themselves managed to defend their line until full time.

Score: Woodrush 2, Malvern 1.
