ELECTRIC shocks, lobotomies and insulin comas may not sound like a great way to spend a Tuesday night out.
But Tewkesbury's Roses Theatre hopes to be delighting audiences with the subjects as Mike Moran tells the tale of rebel pop shrink and king of philosophy R.D Laing.
Complete with a jazz score based on the music of Bill Evans, Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, Mike tells the life of the man who was more difficult to get hold of than Mick Jagger in the 1960s.
With music performed by David Milligan, the evening tells the story of Laing, who turned psychiatry on its head by demonstrating that electric shocks, lobotomies and insulin comas did nothing to help the mentally ill.
After famously stating it was normal to be mad, it was mad to be normal and schizophrenia was a breakthrough not a breakdown, the rebel opened safe houses before disappearing in the 1970s.
After the huge success of his Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Moran will perform the show dubbed another spell-binding and touching triumph on Tuesday, November 13.
