COLWALL first XI travelled to Bristol to face the side second in the West Premier League Division One (Ladies) table and came away with a hard earned draw, their third of the campaign.
PORTISHEAD/FIREBRANDS 1, COLWALL 1
Colwall started brightly and were unlucky not to score in the opening moments, when Sue Williams' cross was narrowly missed at the left post having beaten the home defence.
Firebrands went on to assert their authority in the first half and were particularly strong in midfield. Colwall's defence was very busy for much of the half (with Emma Twigg outstanding) but pressure finally told with a scrambled goal late in the half.
Colwall lifted their game after the half time talk and were unlucky not to score early in the half, hitting the post in a corner routine.
The difference in the Colwall side showed, regaining control of midfield through Polly Bounds and Nina Emery, forcing the home side into mistakes.
Finally their persistence showed and Laura Macfarlane was able to release Alexis Tysler to score a spectacular equaliser by chipping over the advancing keeper.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall are at home to St Austell (12.30pm) at Ledbury Leisure Centre.
