IN Alison Fraser's article headlined "Clampdown on truancy" (Evening News, October 31), she says it is a mystery why pupils "bunk off" school. It is my opinion that bribery, as with McDonald's vouchers for school attendance, is not the way to go.
The only way is to administer some form of punishment for the truant. As corporal punishment is now (unfortunately) banned from schools, perhaps exclusion from their favourite lesson may be the answer.
In my day we had "six of the best" with a thick leather strap on the hands, or if for very bad behaviour, on the bottom! It made one think.
