Bretforton Ladies 2, Marlborough 1
A POSITIVE start by Bretforton created the first short corner of the match.
An alternative routine taken by Julie Hall found player of the match Sophie Corbett on the top left of the circle who struck a dipping ball towards the far corner, which deflected off a defender and crept into the goal.
Minutes later an attack initiated by Dawn Thatcher gave Corbett her the opportunity to dribble the ball to the top of the circle and with a powerful strike smacked the ball onto the backboard.
A fine solo run and shot reduced the arrears but Bretforton kept the pressure on with Julie Stowe battling up the left side.
A superb clearance off the line by Jane Wheeler helped Bret stay ahead but it was a different game after the break and the home team were under pressure but the defence stood firm allied to excellent keeping from Fiona Baldelli.
No matter how hard Marlborough tried, they failed to find an equaliser.
