A FEATHERED treat is in store for Worcester's schoolchildren when Ook the snowy owl resumes his school visits in the wake of Harry Potter mania.

Ook, who plays the role of Harry's owl Hedwig in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is currently making guest appearances across the UK as children get in a flap about the film's release.

The feathered film star is a familiar face to many in Worcester because his owner and trainer Roger Pearson is the "Animal Man" who has spent the past 30 years lecturing in city schools and libraries.

Now Mr Pearson says he will be trying to return to Worcester as much as possible because he regards it as his adopted city.

"I love Worcester, I'm looking forward to coming back - I always do the schools and libraries there," he said.

"We nearly bought a house on the river but it wasn't to be, but we go as much as we can.

"A lot of the children will have met Ook already, but he will be back. Things are just so busy at the moment."

Ook made several visits to Worcester libraries over the summer but is now leading a hectic life following his film debut.

The busy filming schedule took Ook away from the family fold at Wombourne, near Dudley, for many months.

However, in true film star style, the wise old bird managed to soothe his wife's ruffled feathers.

"When he came back from filming, he fell head over heels in love with his wife all over again and now they've got three babies!" said Mr Pearson.

Ook has a wingspan of more than 6ft and is now 16 years old with a life expectancy of 40 to 45 years.

"Life has got a thousand times busier because of the Harry Potter film - we're even being asked if he can make appearances at children's parties in London!"
