AN Alvechurch church is appealing to kind-hearted folk to sponsor a child living in a Peruvian children's home plunged into financial difficulty, writes Melina Cannon.
A group from St Laurence's Church, which is twinned with a church in Arequipa, visited the San Jose Children's Home, run by the Anglican Church, on a trip to Peru in August.
On their return, they were informed the future of the home, which caters for 25 children aged from about five to 13 or 14 years old, hung in the balance because the Texan church which funded it when it was first set up could no longer do so.
The Rev David Martin, rector of Alvechurch, said the home cared for children who had, for example, been separated from or abandoned by their parents.
Mr Martin said a child could stay at the San Jose Children's Home for £47.50 a month.
