A VERY happy audience left after a beautifully performed concert by the Markham Piano Trio. Opening with Mozart's Trio in C K548, they continued with Arensky's Trio in D minor.
Arensky was born in Russia in 1861 and died in Finland in 1906 and little of his music remains in the standard repertoire. He composed in Tchaikovsky's lyric style and this was very evident in this particular work which provided the talking point during the interval.
The evening concluded with Schubert's lovely Trio in E flat. Special mention must be made of pianist Robert Markham who amply displayed why he has won international competitions in the USA and Italy and was a finalist in the Moscow Tchaikovsky Piano Competition.
The next concert on December 1 will be given by Philip Moore who hails from the Vale of Evesham. He is rapidly becoming established as one of the leading pianists of his generation and recently made his Proms debut. He will play works by Bach, Brahms and Chopin together with Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition.' Further details from 546056.
