EVESHAM club members were out in force last weekend and they celebrated success at three events.

Tim and Victoria Messent travelled to Pangbourne for the prestigious Junior Sculling Head of the River, where Tim raced over 3000m in the MJ15, beating last year's winner to take the silver medal.

There was bronze for Victoria in the J12 Singles over the 1700m course.

A large contingent visited Stourport on Sunday for the Small Boats Head.

In Division One, the fastest time of the day and victory in Senior II Fours went to the powerful men's squad of Tom Dyson, Dimitrij Phoursa, Alex Gregory and Ewan Baird.

Tim Messent was narrowly defeated in the J15 sculls by an impressive opponent.

Chris Sumner, forced to row in the first division for a time only due to a shortage of boats, nevertheless achieved the fastest time for Junior Open sculls.

In the afternoon division, following an injury sustained by Baird in the morning, Dyson stepped in to double with Phorsa in the Senior III event.

Though a scratch crew they again achieved victory, recording the fastest time of the day for a double scull.

Paul and Steve Redgewell then added to their successful season with victories in both Senior I and II double sculls.

Evesham's ladies achieved some excellent results, with wins for Lizzie Johnson in J15 singles, Cherry Gayton in J14 singles, and Vicki Dyster and Mary Dixon in J15 double sculls.

Later in the day, Gayton and Johnson joined Kate Wilkinson and Lucy Berry, coxed by Sam Fisher, to take victory in the women's J15 quad scull.

In the senior events, coach Rob Buckley's Senior IIII coxed four of Holly Carter, Rosie Buckley, Claire Yates and Katherine Scott, coxed by Tom Matthews, put in an outstanding performance to take victory in their first ever sweep oar event.

Success was crowned by victory for Tina Bonham in women's Senior II sculls.

Sculler Andrew Walker was invited during the summer to train at Leander Club, the premier English rowing club, and home to Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell and many top British stars.

Joining the Junior Develop-ment squad, his potential was quickly recognised, and he earned a place in the club's Junior quad scull entered in the Fours Head of the River in London.

Raced over the famous boat race course from Mortlake to Putney, 550 crews competed on Saturday in near perfect conditions.

With three Great Britain junior internationals in the crew, Walker was in good company but faced strong competition from Dulwich College, Kings Chester and Royal Grammar School Worcester.

Steered brilliantly by stroke Adam Moffatt, they stormed through the field to take victory in the Junior quad sculls and 28th position overall.

Many of Evesham's rowers will be travelling to Birming-ham's National Indoor Arena this weekend for the British Indoor Championships when they will be hoping to build on their tremendous success at the same event 12 months ago.
