KEMPSEY could play host to the Citizens Advice Bureau by providing a room for consultations in the village community centre.

"I have a dream that maybe we could have a centre here," said Kempsey Parish Council chairman Joy Clee.

"I would like to see it done through IT. What about an internet caf? We could tie it in with the CAB."

The question arose when parish council members were considering a request for a grant to Malvern Hills CAB, which had 56 contacts with Kempsey people in the 12 months up to March 2001.

This represented 0.5 per cent of the bureau's contacts from all over the district, but some members felt Kempsey people would be more likely to consult Worcester CAB.

As Worcestershire County Council and Malvern Hills District Council both make grants to the CAB it was agreed not to make a further contribution because parishioners were already "paying twice" through their council tax.

"I'd much prefer to have a centre here. Let's write and ask what plans they have for spreading the net," said Mrs Clee.

Malvern Hills CAB already has satellite centres at Langland, in Malvern, Upton-upon-Severn and Tenbury Wells.

Deputy manager Richard West said they were in the process of setting up a website and hoped to be able to answer some queries by e-mail.

"We are always striving to meet the needs of the Malvern Hills community and if there is a request for an outreach centre in Kempsey we will certainly consider it," he said.

Worcester CAB already has a website, www.worcestercab.org.uk and the bureau already gives advice by e-mail.
