MALVERN go into tomorrow's (Saturday) key Midlands One game at home to Kenilworth with a couple of league debutants on show.
Ian 'Beano' White replaces the unavailable George Blakeway at scrum half. White had a successful run in the first XV in the friendly at Old Patesians, showing the form which marked him as an outstanding youth prospect in the all-conquering Barkers Butts Colts side a few seasons ago.
He is also visible proof that Malvern's connection with the University of Worcester is paying dividends. The University side are currently sitting at the top of their Students League and many of the side are benefiting from the senior rugby they are experiencing at Malvern.
Dave Merlin, having finished his Masters Degree course is now available and comes in at number eight to add his considerable experience against a Kenilworth side currently riding high after a 10 try spree at home to Longton last week.
Winger Mark Roberts scored seven and is an obvious danger, whilst James Cathcart scored seven conversions on top of his brace of tries. With a stated aim of National League rugby, and a profitable connection with Coventry RFC plus a steady Antipodean influx, the Warwickshire side pose yet another stiff test for a Malvern side that is showing signs of starting to gel.
Bo Kristoffersen returns from Danish international duty to play on the wing, whilst Sean Lancett and Dave Irish retain their front row positions after a couple of good outings. Vince Hill has his first start after no ill effects as replacement in his comeback match at Camp Hill.
Director of rugby David Robins said: "Finally we are putting out a reasonably settled side after so many early season injuries and non-availability problems. Kenilworth command our respect, but we don't fear them, and by 4pm or thereabouts on Saturday they will know they have been in a game."
The match at Spring Lane kicks-off at 2.30pm and an improving Malvern side would welcome some good home support.
