PLASTIC lobsters are just some of the weird gifts girl band Angelica have had showered on them by enthusiastic fans.

The indie/rock kittens, who lace their sounds with bitter-sweet choruses, have sharp musical claws that dig into the gritty depths of guitar music.

The four-piece, who have played top gigs such as the NME Premier Awards and Reading Festival, will be soon making their debut appearance at the Marr's Bar, in Pierpoint Street, Worcester.

"Sometimes fans can be a bit too keen," says bass player Brigit Colton. "We may say we like lobsters in an interview and they'll bring plastic lobsters to gigs

"We like that fact they're into us, but it's really weird."

Angelica, who have been together for seven years, are currently finishing an album entitled The Seven Year Itch and hope to release the 10-track offering sometime this month, or in January.

Cat Bjelland, from riot girl band Babes in Toyland, is one of the names who have helped produce it.

Brigit is joined in the band by Holly Ross (lead vocals and guitar), Rachel Parsons (drums) and Claire Windsor (guitar), all aged 22.

They all went through the same school, except Rachel, who joined them in the sixth form.

"When we started off we were into Nirvana, Sonic Youth and the riot girl movement," says Brigit, aged 21.

"Just me and Holly wrote initially, but there are quite a few songs on the new album that all of us have written.

"Holly and I take our inspiration from history, films and personal experience.

"I'm into P J Harvey and Sonic Youth, Holly is into psychedelic stuff, Claire likes heavy metal, rock and hip-hop, and Rachel is into AC/DC, but says that's her boyfriend's influence."

Angelica, who come from Lancaster, have supported The Beautiful South at Huddersfield Stadium.

Brigit, who cites current chart music as "rubbish" and "dull", says she hopes Angelica will be the band to come along and inject a little excitement into the music scene.

"The most exciting thing I've heard for along time is the Kylie single!" she says.

"Hopefully we'll change the stagnant state of the charts."
