COLWALL Womens Hockey Club were hosts to high flying St Austell in this West Premier League Division One match and with a good record against quality opposition this season, Colwall again showed their mettle.
COLWALL 4, ST AUSTELL 2
St Austell could barely field 11 but Colwall fielded a full squad and made the most of the superior numbers. The home side were very attacking and enjoyed much of the possession. Patient build up play resulted in Colwall's first goal, Laura Macfarlane capitalising on a rebound.
Some minutes later, Alexis Tysler, once again, scored an impressive goal, striking into the roof of the net from the edge of the D.
St Austell however remained threatening and pulled one goal back before half time.
The 2-1 lead was constantly under threat in the second half, but Anna Price in goal and Joe Dinnie at sweeper played their part giving Colwall the upper hand. Tireless work from Polly Bounds, in midfield, ensured the attacking play was maintained, and soon Laura Macfarlane claimed her second.
St Austell immediately reduced their arrears to make it 3-2, but it was Colwall which finished the stronger, with Laura Macfarlane claiming her hat-trick following a good passage of play with Sue Williams.
Despite having only lost one match so far, Colwall were in a low position in the league table, this win and hopefully a good result against bottom of the table Swindon next week should see them climb the table.
Tomorrow's (Saturday) game against Swindon is an away fixture.
