WHAT an indictment of the state of our country was the front page and page two of the Ledbury Reporter of November 9.
A picture of an outraged citizen surveying wilful damage; the effrontery of thieves who raided a shop almost next door to the police station; the vandals who no doubt rejoiced as they wrecked the CCTV cameras installed to prevent the very damage they perpetrated.
The 'nanny state' has brought us to this moral cowardice where there is no communal spirit or civic pride, and the police reduced to uniformed social workers. A Prime Minister who talks of Britain being a moral country with a strong sense of "right and wrong". How long is the "moral" country to be content with wallowing in this grotesque self-deception?
Who on the local council is going to make himself heard and demand more of the police (the protectors of law and property) in eradicating this cancer in our midst? Why are they so tardy in denouncing the culprits who live in their own town?
