A member of Malvern's Holy Trinity Church has embarked on a personal quest to record the names of war heroes connected with his parish.
Rex Thomas was stirred to make the list when he noticed the weather had eroded the names on the church war memorial. He wants to unveil a newly-carved memorial, or an alternative monument less vulnerable to the weather, on Remembrance Day in 2002.
It could include, for the first time, the names of two Malvern men who never returned from the battlefields of the Second World War, but whose names are not recorded on the list of fallen on a plaque in the church.
Together with fellow churchgoer, Tim Brazier, Mr Thomas, chairman of the church council's property committee, has searched many sources, including a list of names read out annually by the vicar.
"William H Hinds and Stanley McPherson are both names that have been added to the vicar's list by members of their families, and I see no reason why they should not be included," said Mr Thomas
He is hoping to involve local schools and Scout groups and is getting a research group together, to which anyone is welcome. Its first meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday, November 20, at Holy Trinity Parish Hall. More information is available from Mr Thomas on (01684) 563473.
