HE Malvern Gazette of November 2 failed to mention the unveiling on October 27, by Sir Bernard Lovell, of a memorial on St Alban's Head, Worth Matravers, erected by the Purbeck Radar Museum Trust, to mark the work of the radar establishment, sometimes known as TRE.
This was based in Purbeck from 1940 to 1942, when we moved to Malvern after the Commando raid on Brunval.
The unveiling was attended by a small group of TRE 'old hands', by several ex-WAAFs, who operated the defence radars both during and after TRE's stay, by numerous citizens of the Purbeck area, including the mayor of Swanage and by the Wareham Town Band and an anonymous pilot of a light aircraft who carried out a flypast during the ceremony.
MR S RATCLIFFE, Mason Close, Malvern.
