"I'M going to nail my colours to both sides of the fence".

Many people like to take this option in life, for we live in an age when people don't like to be firm about anything. People talk about keeping their options open.

This Sunday the Anglican Church in the Malvern area is holding a Confirmation Service. During the service people will be standing up and confirming their faith in Jesus Christ.

They will be seeking to say they have opted in to trusting Jesus Christ. They have nailed their colours firmly to Jesus' side of the fence.

In an age of uncertainty it can seem to be too presumptuous to ask anyone to come firmly down on one side of the fence.

This is, however, exactly what Jesus expects from us; for he calls us to come and follow him (Matthew 4:19). If we come and follow him then he will give life in all its fullness (John 10:10).
