WORCESTERSHIRE'S Jeremy Robinson and David Park of Hereford are still in contention to secure their European Tour cards after the second round of final qualifying in Spain.
Park followed up his first round 69 with a 71 for a two-round two-under-par total of 142 to lie in joint 23rd place.
After six rounds the leading 35 players and ties will win a place on the European Tour next season.
Robinson, from Evesham, was just one shot behind Park in joint 33rd place after shooting a second round 71 to go with his opening 72.
Sweden's Magnus Persson leads the 168-strong field on seven under -- and he knows all about the trials and tribulations of the week.
Persson, who in 1990 lost a play-off in Majorca to Seve Ballesteros, has been to the school 10 times since then and has yet to make it through.
"On the first couple of visits I was so nervous I had no appetite," he said.
"But you do survive. Life does go on. It's just another tournament."
Leicester's Matthew Cort, a first-timer at the school, is one behind -- but there is catching up to do for the three Ryder Cup players taking part.
Steve Richardson, runner-up to Ballesteros on the 1991 Order of Merit with more than £500,000, is joint 23rd; Paul Broadhurst is 47th, and Philip Walton 108th.
For Walton, the first requirement is to climb into the top 75 who survive the 72-hole cut tomorrow night.
