TEACHERS at Elgar Technology College celebrated their new status with a flash evening last week.
A new projector - purchased with technology money - highlighted what the school has to offer, while guests munched on top-class canaps.
There was no pomp and circumstance, no revelling in their own glory, just happy faces celebrating what the school has already achieved.
Technology status means a lot more than just a change of name.
It's extra money (hence the smiles), more involvement with businesses and the community and a chance to feel proud.
Elgar High school received a lot of criticism, but with the new name it has turned a new page in its history.
Its pupils will have more opportunities to prove themselves in the job market.
Technology status means there will be more computers and more state-of-the-art equipment.
Students will be better equipped to face the world when they leave the school, and hopefully have a better chance of gaining further qualifications.
It's a shame that this has only become possible through outside funding.
