Ping-pong has fairly taken hold in Malvern. Many who ridiculed the game a short time ago are now its most ardent devotees. I would advise all players to keep themselves in form, as I hear a tournament is likely to take place in the Assembly Rooms. Malvern Gazette, November 15, 1901.

James Bettington of Mathon was summoned for driving a horse and trap without a light. The charge having been read over, the defendant said he had a light, but unfortunately it went out. PC Samuel Wynn said he spoke to the defendant, examined the lamp, and found a whole candle, which had not been lighted. The defendant said it was a beautiful night. A fine of 5s and the costs was imposed. Ledbury Free Press, November 19, 1901.

The old chapel in Newtown Road is being put to a new and very modern use - it is a film studio, the first to be established in the district, and shooting has now begun therein on a documentary on the life of William Murdoch, the inventor of gaslight. Malvern Gazette, November 16, 1951.

In the middle of the service at Stretton Grandison Church last Sunday afternoon, the Vicar S M Benjamin baptised a child of German parents, who named their offspring Regina Maria, the German version of Queen Mary.

Mr Paul Picton of Colwall is the new chairman of Malvern Hills Conservators.

At 34, he is the youngest to hold this office since the Board came into being in 1884. He succeeds Mr Reg Green, chairman for six years, who did not seek re-election. Malvern Gazette, November 18, 1976.

Another attempt is to be made by Malvern Hills District Council's planning committee to have the 30mph speed limit on the A417 at Ledbury moved to include the entrance to the Deer Park estate.
