MALVERN Premiers continued their unbeaten record in the Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup last Sunday with a 3-1 win over Lakeside A to go through to the third round.

LAKESIDE A 1, MALVERN PREMIERS 3

In the first ten minutes Lakeside looked promising with some fine attacking moves, but 15 minutes into the game Nick Kordas rounded the defenders to claim goal number one for the Prems.

Three minutes later Chris Brown retaliated to a bad tackle and was shown the red card. Down to ten men, it looked as if the Prems might struggle, but Lakeside never took advantage of the extra man and at half-time the score remained 1-0.

In the second half the Prems continued to have the upper hand with neat passing resulting in sub Billy Michaunt claiming number two.

Lakeside did manage to break away a few times but on three occasions man of the match, keeper Steve Newman, kept them at bay.

Also worthy of note was the effort put in by Richard Gwynne, who consistently battled for the ball and opened up play. With 20 minutes to go Lakeside managed to pull one back, but the Prems quickly retaliated with a deserved goal from young Jamie Abba.

Five minutes before the whistle substitute Chris Cooke was brought down in the box but Keith Reynolds failed to convert as the Lakeside keeper made a superb save to keep the final tally at 3-1.

Manager Dave Loader said: "I was pleased with the Prems performance, being reduced to ten men so early in the game would have demoralised most teams, but the Prems were not intimidated and gave Lakeside no opportunity to take the advantage."

Malvern Premiers, sponsored by the Cross Keys, play at home this Sunday against Badsey Recreation Res in the Evesham Cup. Players meet 9.30am prompt.

Players are reminded about training on Tuesday at Dyson Perrins 8-10pm.
