UPTON Rowing Club were out in force again entering six crews into the Stourport Small Boats Head last Sunday.
The racing was split into two divisions, with four Upton crews rowing in the morning and two in the afternoon. Having rowed up to the start and observed a two minutes silence, a men's veteran E crew, men's veteran C crew and two women's novice coxed fours began their rows back down the course. With calm water and a mild temperature, conditions were ideal for rowing. The Veteran E crew of Dave Lambert, Paddy Norman, Andrew Crowther and Richard Hanby, coxed by Sandy Elwell, won their event in a time of 13 minutes, 46 seconds. The women's novice coxed four of Freya Biggs, Annie Surman, Deirdre Thompson and Debbie Thompson, coxed by Liz Killick won their category in a time of 15mins, 11secs.
In the afternoon, the men's Veteran B crew of Chris Couper, Keith Andrews, Keith Shouler and Richard Lee, coxed by Karen Lanni, were unfortunate to miss out on the winning position by five seconds.
