A controversial second-half goal robbed Kidderminster Harriers of a money-spinning FA Cup run after a disappointing first round exit.
The goal came after a disputed throw-in appeared to be awarded the wrong way and Paul Campbell went on to pounce with a 54th-minute header as Harriers' defence dozed.
The home side had shown plenty of promise in the first half but faded badly in the next period and were often restricted to long-range efforts by defensive Darlington.
In fairness to the visitors, they carried out their game plan to near perfection by playing with just the one man up front.
Harriers failed to win their third game in a row and boss Jan Molby must hope their league form is better than this showing when they head to Lincoln on Tuesday.
