A BATTLING FA Cup display by Worcester City proved an ideal launching pad for a petition backing a move to a new stadium at Nunnery Way.
City was knocked out by a solitary Rushden & Diamonds goal but had better news off the pitch with many fans putting the names forward calling for a ground move.
Chairman Dr Mike Sorensen is confident the club will succeed in attracting more than 10,000 signatures supporting the development of the combined ground and B&Q store.
A groundswell of public opinion including politicians is in favour of the move from the St George's Lane club and many of the 3,313 crowd on Saturday are believed to have signed the petition.
"We've only just started the petition but hopefully we will get five-figure support for the move," said Dr Sorensen.
"I'm becoming increasingly confident now that we have the full backing of important people such as our MP and councillors, although it will be the Secretary of State who decides it."
