I AM delighted that Alan Hurst almost agreed with me for once (You Say, November 8). Almost, but not quite.
Mr Hurst feels that I should have referred to "Britain", not England!
However, these days Scotland, Wales and the Six Counties are autonomous. Indeed, while serving with the Armed Forces during the Second World War, I met many Scots. Frankly I wondered whether some of them regarded Hitler and the Japanese as their enemies, or the English!
Nevertheless, I quite agree that "hope and glory" have also departed from the other three parts of the UK, as well as England.
I also agree that the heinous terrorists who murdered 6,000 people on September 11, and who spread atrocious disease, must be utterly defeated.
