WORCESTERSHIRE people are being urged to support the county's cavalry regiment by sending Christmas cards to its soldiers currently on operations in Kosovo.

Members of the Queen's Royal Hussars began their six-month tour last month, meaning the troops will be away from home throughout the festive season.

But Sgt Neil Kew, recruitment officer for the Hussars at Worcester Army Careers Office, said big-hearted people living in the county could brighten up the Christmas period for the tank regiment by sending cards to its soldiers.

"With all that's going on in Afghanistan at the moment it's easy for troops based anywhere to think they've been forgotten," he said.

"By sending a card to them it shows people in the county haven't forgotten them, which is a real boost for the troops.

"It's a way of saying the regiment and the work it's doing is being appreciated."

However, he added those wanting to send cards need not worry about the cost of international postage.

"Anyone wanting to send a card can pop into the Foregate Street careers office and drop it into a special post box," he added. "We'll then send the cards to the regiment."
