CONSERVATIVE MP Peter Luff wants to revive the "Middle Way" option on hunting with dogs.
He is one of six MPs to table an amendment to a House of Commons motion which originally called for the controversial pursuit to be banned.
The amendment is for a Middle Way which would allow hunting to continue under strict regulation.
It states that the Middle Way is supported by veterinary surgeons, the public order committee of the Association of Chief Police Officers, and leading animal welfare academics.
Mr Luff said: "More people are realising that a ban on hunting would be bad for the animals the anti-hunt campaigners claim to want to help.
"Support for the Middle Way option is growing fast."
Blocked
MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of a ban on hunting with dogs in the last Parliament but the move was blocked in the House of Lords.
The Government has promised another free vote on the issue in the current Parliamentary session.
The Middle Way option was rejected by both the Lords and the Commons last time.
City MP Mike Foster, one of 228 MPs to sign the motion calling for a ban, said: "Six MPs want the Middle Way - yet more than 200 are in favour of a complete ban.
"That sums up perfectly the chances of success which the Middle Way group have."
