I AM writing to you on behalf of 260 Signal Squadron (SAM) Royal Signals Association.

We are trying to trace more than 200 former soldiers who served with 260 Signal Squadron (SAM), 654 Signal Troop (SAM) and 655 Signal Troop (SAM) in the period 1965-77.

The squadron was disbanded in 1977 and next year will be the 25th anniversary of the break-up of the squadron.

Plans for a special reunion in 2002 to mark this occasion are already under way.

The squadron was formed at Horseshoe Barracks, Shoebury, April 1, 1968, and formed part of 36 Heavy Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillery, which moved to Dortmund, Germany in 1971 to provide air defence cover for BAOR during the Cold War.

Some of the lads from the squadron came from Redditch and it is believed many more may have settled or found employment in the Redditch area when they completed their army career.

Our association has a website at www.260sigsqnsam.abelgratis.co.uk where former members of these units can reach us quickly.

Or they can write to The Secretary, 7 The Heath, South Tankerton, Whitstable, Kent CT5 3HJ.
