REDDITCH Mayor Dot Dudley switched on the Tree of Light in the Kingfisher Centre on Sunday.
The switching-on ceremony is the start of an annual campaign to raise cash for the Primrose Hospice, which cares for people with cancer.
A big crowd turned out for the ceremony in Kingfisher Walk, followed by carol singing from the Primrose Choir and minced pies and mulled wine.
The lights will shine until Twelfth Night.
Everyone who donates to the appeal can have a light on the tree in memory of a loved one.
Names of loved ones and donors will then be printed around the base and also put on display in a book of remembrance in St Stephen's Church from December 1 to January 5.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can fill in the form on page 24 and send it to the hospice or hand it in at the Primrose shop in Alcester Street.
