DEAR EDITOR - I agree Bromsgrove should play its part in celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee but the £50,000 that the district council plans to spend on a bandstand seems a little over the top.
Bromsgrove Swimming Club have some very enthusiastic and talented young people, including my 14-year-old twin daughters. The club has to resort to packing groceries hoping for donations in a local supermarket to help with their meagre funds. We are very fortunate that Harris Brush help out with some sponsorship.
The club has four training sessions per week at the Dolphin Centre at an approximate cost of £3,000 per quarter, every time we invite other clubs for a gala at the Dolphin Centre it costs the club £200 pool hire.
The club compete in the Speedo League Galas, they have won the last two outright, this means the club stand a good chance of promotion at the end of the year, and yet these achievments go unnoticed by the district council.
I do not condone the bandstand. And why should our talented young swimmers have to blow their own trumpet?
Linda Taylor,
Dawson Road,
Whitford,
Bromsgrove.
