He returned to Division One with Brechin City before joining non-league Gloucester City.
A brief stint with neighbours Bromsgrove Rovers was curtailed when he suffered a hip injury.
Brown was player-assistant manager at Halesowen Harriers before taking over as manager.
And after a brief spell as assistant manager at Stourbridge, Brown joined Banks's League Premier Division Stourport as manager replacing Redditch United-bound Phil Mullen.
Swifts won promotion to the Midland Alliance, and to the Dr Martens Western two seasons later before Brown joined United last Thursday.
