THE two top teams in the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis league Division One both had easy victories last week.

Champions Lickey Monarchs' team of Sid Hodgetts, Martin Clark and Steve Mullard had a 9-1 victory over Barnt Green A.

The Green's only win came from their captain Mark Cornish when he beat Steve 13-21, 21-19, 21-19.

Newton Works A had their veteran skipper Ron Butterton in the team for their away game at SPSP and ran out comfortable 10-0 winners.

The only close game in division one was between Droitwich A at home to Astwood Bank, with the Bank just getting home 6-4.

For Droitwich, Trevor Simmons was their outstanding player, winning all of his three games.

He then teamed up with Gordon Nicklin to win the doubles.

The Bank's team of Nigel Anson, Ken Southwell and Margaret Dignum all won two games each.

In Division Two, West Midland Phones were away to Studley Road Terriers and were much too strong for the home team and ran out easy 10-0 winners.

Studley Road Terriers had a good 7-3 away win at Newton Works C. For Studley Road, skipper Bernie Leech did the best, winning all his three games.

He was well backed up by his team mates Jeff Lines and Ian Cairns, Jeff winning two and Ian one.

Bernie and Jeff then won the doubles for their seven wins. For Newton, Brian Askey did the best, winning two, with Steve Dimbylow getting the other.

Hillcrest had a 6-4 win away at Barnt Green B.

Graeme Farral was Hillcrests star winning his three games, Alan McLoughlan had two wins and they then teamed up to win the doubles for Hillcrests six wins.

For Barnt Green Ian Scott did the best, winning two. John Davies and Jim McGuire won one each.

Droitwich B also went down 6-4 at home to Barnt Green Hornets in a hard fought game, with five of the games going to best of three.

Simon Tibke had a great night for Droitwich, winning his three. But they only got one more win, by Dave Watson.

For Barnt Green, Paul Grigg and Ivor Anderson both won two with Tony Lawton getting one. In the all important doubles Paul and Ivor beat Simon and Dave 21-19, 16-21, 21-19.
