STUDENTS at Alcester Grammar School are helping young children get on with IT after launching a Young Enterprise company, writes Helen Clarke.
The company, which the youngsters have named Wokka and the Pansies, will manufacture and market ICT lessons for primary school children from now until the end of the academic year.
The group involves 12 students aged about 16 and 17.
In the company programme, students known as achievers set up and run their own company over the course of one academic year.
They elect a board of directors from among their peers, raise share capital, then market a product of service of their own choice.
At the end of the year, they liquidate the company and present a record and accounts.
Formal recognition of the skills and abilities developed through the company programme is offered via the Young Enterprise Examination, which all participates are invited to sit.
As part of their venture, Wokka and the Pansies is running a six- week course of after-school ICT sessions for a number of primary school children at Our Lady's RC School, in Alcester.
The sessions have been running from the start of the month and cover different aspects of the syllabus, including using the internet and multimedia presentations.
