Studley BKL 1 Nuneaton Griffs 0

Despite a shaky start a goal netted seconds after the restart secured a deserved victory for Studley in the Tony Allden Memorial Trophy.

Chances were at a premium in a first half both teams would rather forget.

The best chance fell to BKL on 15 minutes when Kevin Rowlands rolled the ball into the path of leading scorer Craig Pountney who struck his shot wide of the far post.

But after the restart the Bees caught Nuneaton off guard with a Mark Neath free kick which caused confusion in the box, Pountney was denied by a post but Rowlands pounced from two yards.

Two minutes later BKL should have doubled their lead when Neath swung in a corner and Rowlands put his header over from five yards.

On 65 minutes a chance fell to Studley's Andy Grubb whose shot from outside the area rattled the crossbar.

Nuneaton fought back with two chances in the dying minutes.

A long ball into the box fell to Lloyd Jackson whose shot shook the post and BKL keeper Duncan Turk was the hero at the death touching the ball around a post after Studley failed to clear from a scramble in the box.

But BKL hung on to partly avenge last season's runners-up spot in the Combination when Nuneaton finished top of the pile.
