DEAR EDITOR - Thank you for informing us of the mean manner in which Wychavon District Council deprived High Street traders of their parking spots. Such shabby treatment. Why did they not display a planning notice or inform the traders?
Ever since the start of development in our town we have had a series of disasters.
There was County Hall - a palatial development when they could have used Norbury House Hotel or the Brine Baths Hotel.
St Andrews Street, once full of shops, is now half parking area, a view to be enjoyed by Ravens Hotel residents. Salters Hall cinema could have served a dual-purpose - ground floor shops or library, first floor cinema, theatre conference centre (minus the wretched greenhouse that ruins the square. And there are many other examples.
The proposed demolition of the Market Hall to replace it with Waitrose opposite to Kwiksave is barmy, when Waitrose should take the old Gateway store or move on.
I feel sorry for the Westlands residents who have to traipse to the town centre and to Worcester Road for petrol.
I fail to see how Peter Luff can rejoice at the opening of Waitrose in the High Street. I can remember Cllr. Innett recommending the demolition of the High Street and I remember the demolition of the half-timbered Chorley House and the Georgian Norbury House in Friar Street.
I ask what sort of planning is this?
I came to Droitwich in 1943 and the planners have wrecked the old town.
It's just more cars, more houses.
F Greaves,
York Avenue,
Droitwich.
