AT THE meeting on November 7, the new committee was introduced individually to members.
As an innovation, Mrs Hazel Wright asked for any good news that members would like to share.
Members were also reminded of the arrangements for the pre-Christmas meeting on Wednesday, December 5.
After refreshments, Mrs Anne Renfrew, who had arranged a beautiful display of corn dollies, told members of the worldwide use of such symbols from 4000BC onwards.
In pagan times they were intended to keep alive the spirits who controlled the yearly corn harvest. In more recent times, these symbols were used to celebrate the cutting of the last sheaf or as love tokens.
Mrs Renfrew demonstrated how one type of corn dolly was made and there was an opportunity to buy examples.
New members are welcome. Details from president Christine Dyer on 520824.
