DOT Waldron, acting as chairman in the absence of president joyce Parkes, welcomed Dorothy Norman as guest speaker at the September meeting in the village hall.
Mrs Norman's talk, entitled Fun in Finland, was an account of her visit to that country made possible by her award of a Grace Haddow bursary to study women's political views and their crafts. She had chosen Finland because that was the first country in Europe, and the second in the world, to grant voting rights to women.
Her journey had taken her from Helsinki to beyond the Arctic circle covering 3,000 kilometres in two weeks, seeing museums, factories which designed and made textiles, wonderful handcrafts and, best of all, meeting affectionate and welcoming people.
Thanks were expressed by Elizabeth Mitchell for an inspiring talk.
Guests are always welcome at meetings which are held in Wychbold Village Hall starting at 2pm on the second Monday of each month.
