IN October the group had an interesting talk from Barbara Middlemas on the history of The Chateau Impney, her knowledge of which had grown out of her time there as secretary.

We were saddened to hear of the death in October of Rotarian Joe Mackender who was a friend to all.

The Inner Wheel ladies recently entertained our Rotarian friends to lunch at the Jarvis Perry Hall Hotel.

The November meeting was an absorbing talk entitled From East Germany to England by Hans Meeries. He left East Germany in 1944, never seeing his parents again, went to Tennessee for two years then came to Britain, married in 1948 and worked for Birmingham Education.

He has had one visit back to what is now Poland to meet one of his brothers. He saw the house in which they, and two other siblings, were brought up in a large room with his parents.
